FortiGate Migration Completed in Home Lab: Next Steps and Upcoming Guide Part 2 of 4

Part 1 Part 3 Part 4

I'm excited to share that I've successfully completed the migration from OPNsense to FortiGate 60F in my home lab! This hands-on test environment allowed me to validate the setup and functionality of the FortiGate 60F, ensuring it meets the requirements for my client’s environment. Over the next two weeks, I'll be closely monitoring the setup to assess its stability, performance, and any potential issues. Once I'm confident everything is running smoothly, I'll proceed with deploying this solution in my client’s network.

In addition to this migration, I've decided to create a comprehensive how-to guide for setting up OPNsense. This guide will cover:

  • Creating VLANs
  • Setting up port forwarding
  • Configuring firewall rules
  • Creating aliases for ports and IP addresses of servers
  • Adding security services, including CrowdSec, Proofpoint, and antivirus tools

This will serve as a resource for anyone looking to optimize their OPNsense setup while incorporating advanced security measures.

Stay tuned for updates on both the migration monitoring process and the release of the OPNsense guide. I’m looking forward to sharing the lessons learned and tips that can help others streamline their network setups!
