OSPF Configuration on Cisco Routers
Video Coming Soon....
In this guide, we'll go through the steps to configure OSPF on three Cisco routers. This tutorial is also compatible with Cisco Packet Tracer for simulation. We recommend using the Cisco 2911 router in Packet Tracer for this configuration.
Scenario Overview
- Router 1 (R1): Connected to Router 2 (R2).
- Router 2 (R2): Connected to both Router 1 (R1) and Router 3 (R3).
- Router 3 (R3): Connected to Router 2 (R2).
Step 1: Access Each Router
- Connect to each router via console or SSH.
- Enter privileged EXEC mode on each router:
enable
Step 2: Enter Global Configuration Mode on Each Router
- Enter global configuration mode:
configure terminal
Step 3: Configure OSPF on Router 1 (R1)
- Define the OSPF Process:
router ospf 1 - Advertise Connected Networks:
network 192.168.12.0 0.0.0.255 area 0Replace
192.168.12.0with the actual network between R1 and R2. - Exit OSPF Configuration Mode:
end - Save the Configuration:
write memory
Step 4: Configure OSPF on Router 2 (R2)
- Define the OSPF Process:
router ospf 1 - Advertise Connected Networks:
network 192.168.12.0 0.0.0.255 area 0network 192.168.23.0 0.0.0.255 area 0 - Exit OSPF Configuration Mode:
end - Save the Configuration:
write memory
Step 5: Configure OSPF on Router 3 (R3)
- Define the OSPF Process:
router ospf 1 - Advertise Connected Networks:
network 192.168.23.0 0.0.0.255 area 0 - Exit OSPF Configuration Mode:
end - Save the Configuration:
write memory
Step 6: Verify OSPF Configuration
- Check OSPF Neighbor Relationships:
show ip ospf neighbor - Check OSPF Routing Table:
show ip route ospf - Check OSPF Process Information:
show ip ospf
Conclusion
With these steps, OSPF should be properly configured on all three routers in Cisco Packet Tracer or a live environment. Make sure to save your configurations to prevent loss after reboot. You can enhance your setup with features such as route summarization or authentication for enhanced security.
Note: For lab simulations, Cisco Packet Tracer is highly recommended. Use Cisco 2911 routers in Packet Tracer for optimal results with this configuration.
